Chapter Twelve
A nticipation shook the earth beneath Sarah’s feet. William’s deep, husky voice, the words whispered hotly against her ear, made her long for things she could barely imagine.
His strong hand on her shoulder kept her steady when she wanted to lean back against his chest for support. The slow teasing touch, drawing tiny circles up her inner thigh, assaulted her senses.
It wasn’t just the quickened drumming of her heart. Nor was it simply the heated flow of her blood. In their short time together, she’d come to expect those pleasurable rushes of feelings whenever he touched her.
This was as if a lover—her lover—sought to learn her body, one agonising speck at a time. He drew his tantalising circles with just the tips of his fingers, until the nerves beneath her skin shook. Then he’d still the quivering flesh with a stroke of his palm, before moving higher.
By the time his touch slid up once again, his breathing was as ragged as her own. As he leaned over to place his lips against her neck, his warm breath raced hot across her ear, sending more sparks of desire to trip down her spine.
Ready to become his wife in more than just name, she gave herself over to the passion he coaxed to life. Sarah tipped her head, giving him yet more flesh to tease. She loved the way he made her feel, the first burning rush of desire that gave way to the tense wanting and anticipation. Even now, when the maddening need that built until she thought she’d scream in frustration made her feel wanted and alive.
And just when she thought she could stand it no longer, he turned her around and lifted her high in his arms. The cool air puckered her nipples, but he chased away the cold, suckling first one, then the other as he carried her quickly to their makeshift bed.
Without words he worshipped her slowly, thoroughly with sure touches and demanding lips. She cried out his name as the unrelenting need burst into fulfilment.
Desperate for something more, Sarah reached for him. Instead of coming into her embrace, William grasped her wrists with one hand, holding her captive.
He left her no choice but to submit. And after a brief moment of panic at the fierce, possessive expression etched on the hard planes of his face, she willingly surrendered to his passion.
Yet every touch, each caress of her over-sensitive flesh, sent needy hunger soaring hot to her core. Arching toward him, she begged, ‘William, please…please, I need you.’
Before her cry could end, he released her wrists and came over her, whispering hoarsely, ‘Shh, hush, I am here.’ He filled her with a heat that matched her own.
